What is Tallow?
Tallow is a rendered form of animal fat, typically sourced from cows (mine is). It has been used for centuries in cooking, soap-making, and skincare due to its rich nutrient profile, including essential fatty acids and vitamins. Tallow is solid at room temperature and is known for its moisturizing properties, making it a popular ingredient in natural skincare products. It closely resembles the fat found in human skin, which is why it is particularly effective at nourishing and protecting the skin.
Why Tallow?
Natural & Traditional!! Tallow is highly rich in fatty acids, vitamins A, D, E, and K, which nourish and hydrate the skin. These nutrients help to promote skin regeneration, improve elasticity, and protect the skin's natural barrier. Additionally, tallow closely resembles the oils naturally produced by the skin, making it easily absorbed and effective at soothing dry, irritated skin while supporting overall skin health.
Why I choose Tallow:
I have struggled with multiple autoimmune conditions my entire life resulting in many skin issues. I went through “what the HECK IS IT?” a rash, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, an allergy, a food intolerance, laundry detergent? soap? WHAT.
In early 2024 I discovered tallow balms from a variety of small businesses and started testing. The results were good but not great, I wasn’t stoked on the added oils citrus/mint essential oils and other add ins. In early 2025, I hunted down local ranchers to find the cleanest suet to make my own.
Balms Vs Whipped:
Tallow is solid at room temperature. In cooler temps the Just Balm and Just Whipped do need to be warmed a bit between your fingers before use. The Oil Blends make this process smoother.
Balms are poured straight into jars for use while the Whipped is gently whisked for a few minutes creating a lighter cream/whipped cream texture.
Balms are more of your “salve” like texture.
Whipped Balms are easier to apply.
The preference/blend is up to you! Always feel free to reach out if you have any questions
Tallow has been used for centuries, aka the simple days
No I am not using hamburger grease as skincare.
I purchase my suet from a local farm in Reno, NV. In my lil Verde kitchen I get to work, rendering it down, straining it and creating balms. ( I also have multiple jars on hand at any given moment for cooking as an alternative to butter/oil)
Tallow has SO MANY BENEFITS - here are just a few:
Rich in Nutrients: Beef tallow is packed with vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are essential for skin health. These vitamins help to nourish and rejuvenate the skin, promoting a healthy appearance.
Moisturizing: Tallow is a natural emollient, meaning it helps lock in moisture. It’s rich in fatty acids, like oleic acid, which is great for hydration and keeping the skin soft and smooth. I use the whipped balm in the morning ( a little lighter) and the Just Balm in the evening for a nice slumber overnight mask/slather.
Supports Skin Repair: The nutrients in beef tallow support collagen production and skin regeneration, which can be particularly helpful for reducing the appearance of scars, stretch marks, or dry patches.
Anti-inflammatory: Tallow has natural anti-inflammatory properties, which can soothe irritated or inflamed skin. It may help with conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or acne. (It helped me!) after going to multiple doctors, trying multiple prescription creams, medications and switching my skin care products a million times I came across beef tallow….And yes I still get hormonal acne (but less)
Similar to Skin's Natural Oils: Beef tallow's fatty acid profile closely resembles the oils naturally produced by human skin, which helps it absorb easily and balance the skin's moisture levels without clogging pores. (!!!!!)
My skin is very sensitive, which again is why I use tallow! Before I go to a doctor and make any move for a consistent illness, breakout, rash or any symptom- I need to be able to understand everything I am putting on and into my body as well as know exactly where it came from. Your skin is the largest organ of the human body. What you put on your skin MATTERS. Because your skin absorbs what you apply, and some chemicals can enter your bloodstream, potentially affecting your health over time. Your skin acts as a barrier, but it’s not impermeable, so harmful ingredients in skincare or cosmetics can lead to irritation, allergies, or long-term health concerns.
I have always been very aware of what I’m putting into my body but in the past I have been lenient on skin/hair care products. Last year I completely, 100% became dedicated and committed to reading every ingredient of every product. … and I’m not going back.
I want my health/skin/body care routine and diet to be as clean, pure, and as natural as it can possible be, then I can address whatever issues/symptoms my body is having.
